Condroton® Plus is indicated to aid in the treatment of non-infectious arthropathies such as arthritis, arthrosis, synovitis, and post-operation of joint surgeries in equines.
• Chondroitin A Sulphate
One of the main components of the cartilaginous extracellular matrix. In association with glucosamine sulphate, it has a chondroprotective effect in horses. The oral treatment with this compound is able to reduce the concentration of catabolic mediators, proinflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins. Thus, it acts in the modulation of osteoarthritis and can be used in the treatment and prevention of this disease.
• Glucosamine Sulphate
Contributes for maintaining tissues flexibility and strength. Recent research demonstrates that glucosamine is able to stimulate the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, delaying the progression of osteoarthritis. This substance has significant therapeutic potential in the treatment of this disease, reduces intra-articular inflammation, and stimulates the synthesis of type II collagen, being a base component of the cartilaginous matrix.
• Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
MSM has been used to treat arthritis, reducing the peripheral pain, and inhibiting the characteristic degeneration of osteoarthritis. A study with cultured equine skeletal muscle cells demonstrated that MSM can also reduce the effects of cortisol release (stress) on the musculature of racehorses. Another study reinforces this antioxidant potential of MSM through a protective effect against the damage caused by the oxidative stress and inflammation normally generated by exercise. In addition to effectiveness, this compound is safe for adult horses and foals.
