PROPERTIES

Doxycycline is a highly lipophilic antibiotic of the tetracycline class, presenting greater distribution among tissues and facilitating the dosage for use.

Despite being the main drug for the treatment of erlichiosis, Doxycycline is highly effective against other bacteria, including some strains of Staphylococcus.

It presents broad-spectrum bacteriostatic activity, acting through the inhibition of the protein system of sensitive microorganisms by reversible binding to the 30S subunits of the ribosome, which prevents the transporter RNA (tRNA) from joining the ribosome. Therefore, it damages the bacterial metabolism effectively.

INDICATION

Doxiciclina Vetnil Comprimidos is an antibiotic from the tetracycline group, and its active ingredient is the medication of choice for the treatment of canine ehrlichiosis, a disease transmitted by ticks, usually caused by Ehrlichia canis, the product is alto indicated for dogs and cats in the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria:

       • Dogs (dose of 5 mg/kg): Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, Staphylococcus
intermedius, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Corynebacterium auriscanis and Streptococcus canis;

       • Dogs (dose of 10 mg/kg): Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, Staphylococcus intermedius, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Corynebacterium auriscanis, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus canis and Pasteurela multocida;

       • Cats: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, Staphylococcus intermedius, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Corynebacterium auriscanis, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus canis and Pasteurela multocida.

OBSERVATIONS

In the treatment of canine ehrlichiosis, it is important, in conjunction with the use of Doxiciclina Vetnil Comprimidos, to combat ticks on animals and the environment where they live. The therapeutic success of this disease depends on the correct preventions of reinfestation by ticks carrying Ehrlichia canis.
